As a first-generation college student, with life experiences many of my peers hadn’t had, I wanted to invest in their success the same way they’ve invested in mine.

It’s urgently important to take the ideas of young people seriously. What makes ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ special is the way in which we use our values not as a social litmus test, but as a call to action.

At ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½, I learned to be part of a community bigger than myself and to connect ideas that weren’t obvious—lessons that have been integral to my leadership. My education and experiences at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ gave me the real tools to be a successful executive.

 I was part of ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½â€™s Class of 1973. That was a class that resulted in nineteen Black medical doctors. Being nurtured by ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ made a big difference in my life.

There’s a culture that’s built at ÌìÃÀ´«Ã½ — aided by those who have self-selected to be here — that we should all leave this world better than we found it. And there’s an appreciation that this can be done in myriad ways.
